The Hudson Fairfax Group combines years of experience in Wall Street and Washington that allows us to optimally invest, grow and exit from the most attractive opportunities. Our background encompasses direct, relevant expertise gained in the military and intelligence communities, defense industrial base, public market and private equity investing, venture capital and investment banking. We have worked in a variety of large institutions either in the defense sector or covering it, complementing our focus in investing in, growing and selling SMEs - the core of our investment strategy.

Manish Thakur, Managing Partner
Manish brings a 20-year background in investing, finance and public policy. Prior to founding Hudson Fairfax, he has worked at Merrill Lynch, SG Cowen and HSBC where his responsibilities included managing initial public offerings, private placements, mergers and acquisitions, private equity and strategic investments. During his time as an investment banker, Manish has covered communications, defense, satellites and technology industries. Manish has also worked in the aerospace & communications sector, having served as CFO of Ellipso, a Washington-based satellite venture backed by the Boeing Company. During his various assignments, Manish has had extensive experience both in the United States and globally, having worked in India, Indonesia, Mexico, Thailand and Russia.

Outside of the investment industry, Manish serves as National Security Coordinator for USINPAC, a Washington-based political action committee. He is a writer on current affairs, and is a Partner in an artist management, development and publishing company.

Manish received his BS (Honors) in Economics from the University of London and MBA in Finance from Columbia Business School, Columbia University.

Katherine Priestley, Managing Partner
Katherine is the Managing Partner of Park Vale Capital Limited. She has over 25 years of experience throughout the US, Europe and Asia in finance, consulting, M&A and business operations. Katherine’s business experience in Asia began early in her career working for Chuo Coopers, a US/Japanese JV in M&A focused on the finance industry. For the last 14 years, she has worked for a family investment office where she was responsible for asset allocation, manager selection, and risk management with a strong focus on alternative assets, and direct investing in growth companies especially technology including biotechnology. She also has deep experience in managing companies, having served as CFO of a large UK industrial company for 8 years ultimately leading this company through a sale to a multinational corporation as part of the globalization of the industry.

Katherine currently serves as a member of the Development Board for the Royal Society and is responsible for Park Vale’s working relationship with The Academy of Medical Sciences. She is also a Board Director of the Pitblado Foundation and a Trustee of Krazna Krauz Foundation.

Katherine received her BA (Honors) from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne University, UK and Kokusai Kirisutokyo Daigaku (ICU), Tokyo, Japan; and her MBA from Columbia Business School, Columbia University where she was awarded the graduating Student Award.

Tom Frommack, Principal
Tom has spent his career building and creating new business opportunities of extraordinary value for customers. Tom brings his clients the rare mix of Commercial and Public Sector real-world experience coupled with engineering depth and breadth. Most recently, Tom founded and has been operating two engineering innovation firms with a focus on solving “big data” challenges for business and government across a diverse client base. He has enabled clients to grasp and monitor key insights found in social media, articulate cyber-strategy and operations, develop next-generation imagery order and processing systems, and transform large-scale enterprises.

Prior to starting and operating his engineering firms, Tom served as the Sr. Vice President of Corporate Development at NJVC where his team launched and branded the company, established numerous strategic partnerships, and created a $1B+ sales opportunity pipeline. Prior to NJVC, Tom spent 11 years at Cisco Systems, Inc., where he lead Engineering Sales and Service teams across diverse markets: Service Provider, Enterprise (Fortune 500), and the U.S. Federal Government. While at Cisco, Tom ran all Field Operations of Cisco’s Service Engineering Sales and Services Delivery business unit for the U.S. Telecom market – an $800 million annual business.

Tom resides in Northern Virginia where he takes great pleasure in the coaching, training and development of his five children – and being married to his wife Heather for 27 years.

Hugh Smith, Principal and Chief Technology Officer
Hugh brings more than 30 years of technology experience in the utility, finance, government and defense sectors. His experience runs the gamut from software engineering where he has written production code in more than 20 programming languages. He has managed both hardware and software projects internationally, developed and implemented computer and network performance and capacity planning initiatives, managed and consulted in technology and enterprise architecture and created the strategic technology planning group for a major super regional bank.

He recently has been focusing on exciting developments in computer technology, undertaking projects in statistical analysis of social media through what is commonly known as Big Data, enhancing unstructured document search with natural language processing (NLP), and implementing machine learning algorithms for portfolio analysis.

In the 1990’s he was active in the quality movement, spending five years studying with Dr. Deming, and was for 4 years a member of the Board of Examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. His BS degree is in Science and his MBA emphasized Quantitative Methods and Energy Economics, both from Penn State University.

William J. Sanford, Principal
Bill brings a deep and successful expertise in private equity structuring and management. As CFO of Morning Street Capital, Inc., Bill has managed $40 million in secondary direct private equity funds. Bill currently serves as a board director for Teters Floral Products, LTD – an artificial botanical products business and served as a board member for Celeste Industries – a packaging and airline chemicals business. Prior, Bill was brought into CRP Partners, LLC as a Director in the middle-market Turnaround Management firm. Bill helped the team manage the bankruptcy and $45M sale of G+G Retail and provide a turnaround plan for Fazoli’s, a large Italian restaurant chain, which was able to secure an additional $70M in ABL availability. Bill also worked for Columbia Strategy, LLC and published/ co-published several secondary private equity market reports, including: Opportunity in Adversity, What Private Equity Firms Need to Know About the Secondaries, and Deal/ Transaction Process Flow Diagrams.

Early in Bill’s career, he worked as a software engineer for IBM’s Advanced Internet Technology Group, Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. as a marketing assistant, and Probe Economics Inc. as an information technology specialist.

Bill received a BA in Economics from Johns Hopkins University and successfully completed 8 second year MBA courses at Columbia Business School, Columbia University.

Wendy Simpson, Operations
Wendy joined HFG in June 2013 as the Operations Manager. She has over 25 years of experience in project management, high-level administration and the design and production fields. From 2005-2011 she was a Project Coordinator at Dartmouth College - three years at the Medical School as part of a team responsible for a 250 million dollar capital campaign and three years at the Tuck School of Business where she organized student research and consulting projects focused in the areas of social&environmental responsibility and international business.

Prior to those years in academia, Wendy’s work experience was split between New York City and international locations. In NYC, she was an art director at McCann-Erickson, a student art teacher in the public school system, a production assistant at ABC Sports and the Creative Director of a medical technology company. Outside the USA, she was the Art Director for a publishing company in Japan, an educational advisor for the US Consulate in Australia and the office manager for a theater&film production company in the UK.

Wendy has a BFA with Dean’s List honors from Syracuse University and a Post-Baccalaureate from the School of Visual Arts.

In 2013, Hudson Fairfax Group, LP joined forces with Park Vale Capital Limited an investment firm dedicated to developing and managing fiduciary long-term capital within focused sectors. The Directors and Partners of Park Vale are experienced professionals with expertise in private equity fund management, public markets and bespoke and risk portfolio asset management. Park Vale operates from offices in London, New York, and Hong Kong, allowing it to source and manage its networks, information and deal flow on a global basis. This combined effort leverages our U.S. network into a number of other key countries with bilateral cybersecurity needs and knowledge, including the UK and Israel.
